Circular VI

“The claim of the Gael to Ireland is by the sword only,
and by the sword was it reclaimed in later days by the
descendants of these ancient peoples - namely the Belgic
Dalriata and the Cruthin.”
Dr Ian Adamson OBE.

Hello Everyone,

In this Letter:
1. Paintball Team Building.
2. Next Formal Meeting.
3. Clubs and Societies Pub Quiz
4. Society Events Calendar (Provisional).
5. Merchandise.
6. Student Representative Councillors.

First of all I hope you all had an excellent Christmas, and are looking forward to a Happy and Prosperous New year, and that all your examinations went well.

1. Talking of exams, the best way for you to ‘de-stress’ after the hard revision and examinations season is to come with us to “The Ulster Society Paintball Teambuilding Extravaganza”.
We have arranged a paintballing trip to coincide with the gap between the end of the exams period and the new semester. It will be taking place on Saturday, 27th January 2007. The society shall be footing the transport bill (bus to Monaghan from Belfast and back), so the only cost shall be the paintball itself which is only £30 p.p. (Add in a little extra for more paintballs on the day). Places are limited (25-30), so if you are interested, please send us an e-mail at ulster-society@qub.ac.uk a.s.a.p. More information about money collection and bus location etc. will be posted on the website early next week. This is fantastic value, snap it up!

2. The next formal meeting will be on Tuesday 30th January 2007 at 6PM.

There will be a showing of the small movie “Brethren In Arms” – The stirring story of the 1798 rising in Down, a fascinating re-examination of the ’98 rebellion.

This will also be an opportunity for those who have not yet signed up for membership to do so, for the sum of £3.

The topics for discussion will be:

  • Motions and Questions for the SRC on Thursday 8th February 2007.
  • Quotations and Design for Society Hoodies (ongoing).
  • Other Merchandise.
  • Website and Publicity.
  • New “Voice of Ulster” Online Songbook launch reaction.
  • Paintball reaction.
  • Preparations for events namely:FormalInvitational LectureOther Talks
  • New members.
  • Other Business.

3. The Clubs and Societies Pub Quiz on Tuesday nights remains a very valuable source of club funds. We have received £200 for our society so far! However, to maintain this success we need your help. For a bit of fun and to help the cause, come on down to the speakeasy at 9:30 Pm every Tuesday from Tues 30th January (as far as we’re aware)! More info here.
