Happy New
Year ! Hope you’ve had a peaceful Christmas and haven’t broken all your
new year’s resolutions yet. The Club would like to welcome Stephen Conway
as President and wish Oisin Martin (outgoing President) every success
in his new job. Congratulations to Briege who won the meal for two in
Larry’s.

This year looks set to be as eventful as ‘94 was for the Club, with the
following giving you some idea of the plans for the year ahead :
BLUES
CRITERIA
The Club has submitted a proposal to the University Blues Committee regarding
Blues criteria for the Club. Blues nominees shall be selected on the basis
of a points system, with points being awarded throughout the year for
competitive achievement, technical development and contribution to the
Club.
SHIHAN
CHAN SEMINAR (24-26 FEBRUARY)
Stephen Chan (7th Dan) is widely regarded as one of the foremost technical
experts in Britain and Ireland. The Club has the honour of hosting Shihan
Chan’s Okinawan Weapons seminar in February. Shihan Chan has kindly agreed
to conduct a grading session during his visit. All eligible Club members
are invited to register their interest with the Club Coach in advance.
The annual Club dinner has also been planned to coincide with Shihan Chan’s
visit.
Anyone wishing to help with the organisation of the weekend is requested
to make themselves known to the Committee a.s.a.p.
150 YEAR
INTER-VARSITY COMPETITION (8 APRIL)
The Club is hosting an inter-varsity competition in honour of the 150
anniversary of Queens University. Entries are anticipated from university
and college karate clubs from throughout Ireland and by special invitation
a select team from the University of Kent will also compete.

North West Open -19 March
March North of Ireland Open - 02 July
If you would like to compete in the above competitions, please consult
the coach about the accelerated learning program and squad training sessions.
EVENTS
The next training weekend is scheduled for 22 April in Ballycastle. No
details have been leaked regarding the itinerary, but one can be assured
it will involve much to work up a good thirst !
