Queen's Riding Club - News

We are planning a camping trip, which will take place on 3rd-5th June. We will be camping in Tullymore Forest Park, and riding on the Saturday and Sunday. You can ride both days, one, or none, and you can stay both nights, one, or none. The options for riding are:
Beach ride £35 (2.5 hrs)
Forest ride £25 (2 hrs)
Western Riding: £25 for 1 hour tuition (1 to 1) or
                               £25 for 1.5 hrs trail riding or
                               £40 for 2.5 hours trail riding.
Forest and Western rides can be arranged for beginners/novices, but not beach rides.

We are having our end of term pony games on Wednesday 11th May at 2pm. The theme is Hawaiian, and it costs £10. This event is suitable for both beginners and experienced riders, with mixed ability teams. There will be prizes for the winning team.
It will be followed by our end-of-year dinner, which will take place at 8pm in Ruby Tuesdays on the Lisburn Road. The cost of this will be £15.

Our AGM will take place on Wednesday 4th May at 5pm in the Conference Room in the Students' Union. We would ask as many members as possible to please attend. If anyone is interested in being on the committee next year, please let us know.

We are planning on going on a forest ride on Friday 8th April. This is for experienced riders only. If anyone is interested, can they let us know asap. Costs are likely to be £20 for 2 hours.

Congratulations to all those who went to the intervarsities at the weekend. We finished 5th overall, 3rd in the Prix Caprilli, and 1st (Joanne McCandless) and 3rd (Lorna Stewart) individual in the Prix Caprilli.

The cost will be £55, to be paid asap.

The details for this year's intervarsities have been finalised. They will take place in Galway on 18th-21st February. There will be competitions in show jumping, dressage, and prix caprilli. For further details of what each of these entails, please see the competitions page. You do not need your own horse as horses will be provided. The cost will be £60, which includes entry fees, accommodation and formal ticket.  Anyone wishing to go, must attend the trials on Wednesday 26th January at 2pm. If you want to attend the trials, you must let us know by email or text by Monday 24th January.

The date for the intervarsity trials has been set as Wednesday 26th January. A non-refundable deposit of £20 (plus the cost of the trials-£6) must be paid on the  date of the trials. This will only be refunded in the event of you not gaining a place on the team.

The date for our Christmas Party has been set as 15th December. In the afternoon we will be having pony games suitable for all standards, with rosettes and mulled wine, and in the evening, we will be having a Christmas dinner. Cost is £30, and a deposit of £15 must be paid by Wednesday 1st December, with the balance due by Wednesday 8th. If you only want to take part in either the games or the dinner, cost is £15, payable by 1st December.

Congratulations to all those who took part in the tetrathlon at the weekend, especially Gareth for coming 5th in the running. Thanks go to our sponsors Horseware, and to Dervla and Karen for driving us there.

The dates for this year's intervarsities are 18th-20th February, in Galway. If you would be interested in taking part, please let us know asap, and also let us know which event you would prefer to compete in. We will be having trials after the exams in January to decide the teams.

We are having a forest ride on Sunday 28th November. The cost is £50 for a whole day including lunch. To go on this ride you must be able to control a horse outdoors and be able to canter confidently for about 5 minutes at a time. If you would like to go on this, please email asap to let us know, and bring the money asap either on Monday or Wednesday.

Just to remind everyone about the new times for lessons, which can be found on the lessons page, and the groups for the lessons, which can be found on the lesson groups page.

This year the tetrathlon will take place in Cork on 12th-14th November. The cost will be £60, subsidised by the club, which includes accomodation, entry fees and ball ticket. For details of what the tetrathlon entails, please see the competitions page. If you are interested, please let us know asap but by Wednesday 20th at the latest, including any previous experience (tetrathlon or anything else relevent). Money should be paid by Monday 25th October at the latest.

This year, our first meeting will take place on Monday 4th October. Please note that meetings this year will take place in the Conference Room, not clubroom one, as previously. Lessons will commence on Wednesday 6th October.

The freshers' bazaar this year is on Wednesday 29th September, 10am-4pm, in the Snackbar in the students' union. You can join the club at the freshers' bazaar.
