The N. Ireland Cancer Registry is part of the Department of Epidemiology & Public
Health and was established in 1994 from the old registry run by the DHSS since 1959.

AIM & OBJECTIVES
To provide accurate, timely information on cancers occurring in the population of
Northern Ireland to enable research, planning and education so the burden of
disease may be reduced.

Department of Health & Social Services 70%
Ulster Cancer Foundation 30%

SOURCES OF INFORMATION ON CANCER
Information on cancer will be obtained automatically from hospital pathology
laboratories and the Patient Administration System (PAS) with links to breast
and cervical screening programmes and death certificates.
