History

This years event is the 4th ever Irish Surfing Association National Student Surfing Championships and the first event to be hosted by a university club - Queens University Belfast Surf Club. The first competition, held in Rossnowlagh in March 2000, was sponsored by Coors Light and organised directly by the I.S.A. It was a great success and momentum was gathered to turn the event into a yearly fixture.

Next years competition in March 2001 was planned as a return to Rossnowlagh but was unfortunately hit by the restrictions surrounding the Foot and Mouth disease outbreak and had to be postponed until November of the same year. This meant that there were 2 National Student competitions in the same accedemic year with the following April 2002 selected as the date for the 2001/2002 season's contest.

This time a change of venue was in order and the small Kerry town of Ballybunion was the unlucky target for the small but energetic crowd of surfing Irish students who made the effort to get there.

This years event promises to be bigger and better than ever despite the loss of sponsorship from Coors Light - several other smaller sponsors have been found - visit our sponsors page to find out more.
