The Plate competition
is named after Owen McNally, a Monaghan referee
and member of Ulster Ladies Galeic Council for
many years. Owen has played a vital role in
the establishment of the Colleges Football in
Ulster, contributing much over the years.
In the early days the
teams defeated in the early rounds / semi finals
of the Dowd cup would compete for the McNally
Plate. Queen's won the inaugural McNally Plate
in 1994, and repeated the feat in 1996.
Today see's a change
in structure of the competation with the larger
colleges such as Queen's and UUJ entering their
seconds team in the McNally Plate competation.
St Mary's Strawberry
Hill now also enter the championships
and won the plate in 2000 and 2003.
