Queens 2nd XI vs Lurgan 2nd XI

Match type: League.
Venue: Dub Lane.
Spanker: Andy Brown.

Queens: Grattan, Barr, Andy Brown, Dunlop, Taylor, Stephen Forsythe, Simon Scott, McDonald, Andrews, Neil Jaques, Crowe.

Queens won the toss and had no hesitation in batting on a perfect dub wicket, however with no wicket keeping gloves having arrived Captain Mongo could do little else. Barr and Grattan settled in for the afternoon batting the first 25 overs for 60 runs before Barr was bowled for 25, Grattan continued on as before and was briefly accompanied by Shandy Brown who dollied a simple chance to square leg in one of the gayest dismissals ever seen. Stevie Dunlop entered the arena and played one of his finest innings in his Queens career. Grattan completed his second successive half century and was eventually removed for a well grafted 58. Enter the much talked about big hitting captain Taylor to join Stevie D in the 40th over. After defending the first ball the skipper got restless and proceeded to try to hit every ball out of the ground. Luckily the bowler did not realise that the best strategy would have been to bowl the ball on the stumps, but eventually "wee Mongo" made contact launching the ball over the Malone Road in an entertaining 18 runs. Dunlop was unlucky not to complete his maiden Queens century finishing on 91 not out in a Queens total of 229 for 9 in their 50 overs.
The Lurgan reply was demoralised early on with Johnny Crowe taking three quick wickets ably assisted by the very accurate Stephen Forsythe. The rest of the wickets were dispersed between Colin Andrews, Pete McDonald and Neil Jaques as Lurgan were dismissed for a paltry 70 runs. The spanker went to Andy Brown, and also to Colin Andrews who got the seconds kicked out of the cup for playing an ineligible player ---who was the Queens secretary Colin Andrews, yet again QUBCC insist on supplying the NCU with a reason to shit upon us. The secretary was dealt with in typical Queens fashion. His dismay was further compounded later that night in the Botanic Inn after tackling one of the newly found Queens CC groupies Mr. Andrews was left holding the young females drink whilst watching the first eleven captain tackle his bird.
